7 Things to Do in Virginia Beach in July!
July is right around the corner and what better way to spend it than at the beach! Virginia Beach is a lively city filled with fun on the water activities, delicious seafood restaurants, relaxing beaches, great entertainment and nightlife! Here are 7 exciting and enjoyable ways to spend your time at the beach in July!
1. Fourth of July Oceanfront Fireworks + Stars & Stripes Celebration
Don't miss out on watching fireworks on the Fourth of July! Make your way down to 24th Street and the Boardwalk to watch the fireworks launch over the Atlantic Ocean at 9:30 p.m. Also, throughout the weekend (July 2-4) there will be FREE live music on the 17th, 24th, and 31st Park Street Stages along the Boardwalk. 2. Family Movie Night at 29th Street Beach
Who doesn't love a movie night? On every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Family Great Adventure Movie Series creates a fun movie night on the beach with a giant inflatable movie screen playing family-friendly movies throughout the month of July. Make sure to bring a blanket to spread out on and some popcorn to enjoy the movies featured this month - July 7: Onward, July 14: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, July 21: Aladdin, July 28: Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
3. Go Offshore Fishing
Virginia Beach is a great place to fish on the East Coast because it sits on the Chesapeake Bay AND the Atlantic Ocean which are home to hundreds of species of fish you can catch! Some of the top fish you are most likely to catch in the month of July include: Tuna, Yellowfin is the most popular (and tasty) but you could find yourself catching Bluefin, Bigeye, and Albacore. 4. Hit the Beach!
July is one of the hottest months of Summer and what better way to cool off than going to the beach! The beach is perfect for all ages whether you want to sit back and relax in a beach chair, boogie board in the ocean waves, or build a sandcastle; the beach is just as relaxing and exciting as you make it! The Boardwalk is lined with plenty of stores to pick up fun beach activities, chairs, towels, snacks & drinks to make sure you have the perfect day by the water.
5. Nightlife: Oceanfront Bars & Breweries
Once the sun goes down the night isn't over in Virginia Beach; it's only getting started! Down by the Oceanfront there are 3 miles worth of fun and unique bars lining the Boardwalk and Atlantic Avenue such as the outdoor bar The Shack, Chix on the Beach, and Calypso. A few great breweries near the oceanfront include Smartmouth Brewing, Back Bay Brewing Co., and Vibrant Shore Brewing Company which all offer live music and food trucks depending on the dates!
6. Cape Henry Lighthouse: Fort Story
Make your way over to one of Virginia Beaches historic sites, the Cape Henry Lighthouse on the Fort Story military base located at the end of the North End streets on 89th and Atlantic Avenue. The lighthouse is situated on the point of Cape Henry where the beginning of the Chesapeake Bay starts. You have the opportunity to tour the lighthouse and have amazing views across the different bodies of water. 7. Amusement Parks: Atlantic Fun Park & Motor World
Looking for a place that offers fun rides, go-karting, games, food, and more? The Atlantic Fun Park is located right off the Boardwalk and 15th Street where you can enjoy their 16 rides, funnel cakes, and carnival games to win prizes! Just across the Rudee Inlet Bridge is where Motor World is located where there are 11 go-kart tracks with 16 different style karts you have the opportunity to ride in, shipwrecked mini golf, the skycoaster ride and bumper boats.
