Is Virginia Beach private?

The beach is public and available for everyone’s enjoyment. Please keep our beaches and waterways “Beachy Clean” by removing all of your trash before leaving.

Where is the Virginia Beach Boardwalk and pier?

The 3 mile Boardwalk begins at 1st Street and ends on 40th Street. The pier is located on 15th street.

Are fireworks allowed on Virginia Beach?

Fireworks are strictly prohibited in Virginia Beach.

Are pets allowed on Virginia Beach?

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, dogs are not permitted on the beach between Rudee Loop and 42nd Street. Leashed dogs are allowed on the Boardwalk and Atlantic Avenue between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., with the exception of restrictions during special events. On the beaches north of 42nd Street, dogs are permitted on the beaches without without a lease before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. 

After Labor Day and before Memorial Day, dogs are welcome on the Boardwalk at any time as long as they are on a leash and are welcome on the beaches at any time and may be off-leash.

Are there lifeguards patrolling Virginia Beach?

Lifeguards monitor from stands in the Croatan Beach area and in the Resort Area (1st-42nd Street). The North End area (42nd-88th Street) lifeguards monitor the beaches regularly from ATV’s. Lifeguards are on duty from 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. starting on Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.

Can I leave my beach gear on the beach overnight?

No, beach gear and other personal items MUST be removed from the beach daily. Those in violation of this city ordinance will be fined.

Do I need a fishing license to fish in Virginia Beach?

A license is required for all fishing in Virginia for individuals over the age of 16 and can be purchased at Walmart or online at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. We have great fishing in the bay, the ocean, off the pier on 15th Street, and in the surf. 

Can I reserve a vacation rental at Atkinson Realty for less than 1 week?
